The J is essentially a One S variant, but it sticks much closer to its source material than the DROID Incredible 4G LTE on Verizon. It's got the same4.3-inch qHD screen, 1.5Ghz processor, 8MP camera and Sense-laden Ice Cream Sandwich, but it switches out the storage for 16GB plus a MicroSD cardslot. Despite the proliferation of LTE connections (even KDDI themselves are planning a rollout) the HTC J will stick to WiMAX.
According to the tipster, there will be a WiMax-powered Nexus S 4G, and not one but two EVO products to show off at the press event: the EVO Viewtablet and EVO 3D. wimax nexus tablet. wimax nexus tablet The inclusion of the WiMAX radio is a step up from the original Nexus S. Both the versions for AT&T (s t) and T-Mobile use a 7.2 Mbps radio, whichlimits the mobile broadband speeds. Both carriers are currently boosting their network capabilities, ranging from 14.4 to 42 Mbps theoreticaldownloads. The new Nexus S 4G won’t see downloads in that range either, but in areas of solid WiMAX, coverage could hit 10 Mbps peak speeds.
Of course, the other big issue is one my colleague Stacey pointed out: if Google were to buy Sprint and go down the path I’ve described, it runs thebig risk of alienating both its existing hardware partners as well as the other carriers. That’s a fair point, but for handset makers that don’t havean operating system of their own, such as HTC, they have little current choice but to use a platform from either Google or Microsoft (s msft). Samsungcould rely on its Bada platform, but Android’s growth has made these handset makers somewhat dependent upon the platform. The same momentum wouldlikely keep other carriers from abandoning Android as well. What platform would Motorola (s mmi), HTC, LG and others turn to?
As for the Nexus S 4G, a version that uses any kind of 4G is a welcome addition to Sprint’s Android lineup. From what it seems, after CTIA theSprint lineup could become more top-heavy than last year when the EVO 4G was one of very few high-end Android phones on the network. wimax nexus tablet
After a few months of uncertainty, Sprint is finally shutting down the Clear and Clearwire WiMax networks across the country. My Clear Hub Express nolonger gets a signal here in NYC. wimax nexus tablet.
